BOP Looks to Repeat Title

Bay of Plenty has named a very strong senior team to compete in the upcoming Inter-District National Championships.  This is the pinnacle teams event for the eleven districts, and this year it will be held at Panmure Squash Club in Auckland over the weekend of August 31 - September 1.

The BOP Women's team goes into the event as defending champions after securing an historic title last year.  The team is led by NZ number 2 & Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Amanda Landers-Murphy, who takes huge pride in wearing the Bay uniform.  Amanda has amended her schedule on the professional tour to be available to try to repeat last years success.  Jo Shanks, Camden Te Kani-McQueen and Nadia Hubbard all return from last year's champion team, which is bolstered by the inclusion of Alana Kairaoi from Lakes High

The Men's team is also looking solid with BOP's investment in a strong junior pathway starting to pay dividends.  Future star Glenn Templeton from Katikati has made his way through the ranks to the top team for the first time.  16 year-old Glenn has a long list of national titles and international success in his CV and will hopefully be a cornerstone of the team for many years to come.  He is joined by new BOP resident Josh Greenfield out of the Taupo club as a first time BOP rep.  Ben Grindrod, ranked 5 in NZ, leads the team with stalwart Aaron Kopittke, and Devoy's Alex Oakley rounding out the side.

Cheryl Te Kani-McQueen will manage the team, with Danny McQueen as coach.
