Wayne Werder and Robbie Wyatt Honoured with Squash Bay of Plenty Life Memberships

At the 2024 Squash Bay of Plenty AGM we recently celebrated the remarkable contributions of two advocates of the game, Wayne Werder and Robbie Wyatt, by awarding them Life Memberships. These prestigious accolades recognise their unwavering dedication and significant impact on the sport, both locally and nationally.


Wayne Werder's illustrious squash journey spans decades, marked by numerous achievements on and off the court. Notably, he represented New Zealand at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in 1998, showcasing his exceptional skill and talent. However, it is his leadership and vision that truly set him apart. Werder's instrumental role in orchestrating major events, such as the 2017 World Junior Squash Championships and the New Zealand Festival of Squash in 2022 and 2023, has left an indelible mark on the Bay of Plenty squash community. Through his tireless efforts, Werder brought world-class squash to the region, inspiring the next generation of players and enhancing the sport's profile locally.


Robbie Wyatt, a Bay Boy through and through, has dedicated over 17 years to fostering squash excellence in the region. His coaching prowess and commitment have been instrumental in shaping the success of Bay of Plenty squash, both on and off the court. Wyatt's coaching highlights include working with elite players like Lelani Rorani during her ascent to the pinnacle of the sport. Moreover, his role as the Squash BOP District Coach since 2007 has been pivotal in nurturing talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving unprecedented success at both regional and national levels. Wyatt's passion for development, coupled with his collaborative approach, has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant squash community of the Bay of Plenty.
